What is the best way to wash and care for my merino garments?

Merino is an easy fabric to look after and you will get a long life from your garment if it is cared for by following the care instructions.

  • Always use a mild wool approved washing liquid.
  • Using a Laundry wash bag can help extend the life time of our garment, you can purchase ours here.
  • Hand or gentle wool cycle machine wash using lukewarm (No more than 30 degrees) or cold water with equal temperature rinse. (lukewarm wash with lukewarm rinse or cold wash with cold rinse).
  • NEVER use a detergent or fabric softener containing any bleaching agents or enzymes on any wool garment, these will eat through the wool and cause holes. Fabric softeners coats the fibres reducing their ability to naturally manage moisture and regulate temperature control.
  • Do not use bleach as it destroys merino fibres.
  • Dry lying flat in a shaded area.
  • Wash with similar colours
  • Merino doesn’t need to be washed each time it’s worn unless it is soiled. With all its Natural antibacterial properties it can be laid out in a shaded area in a breeze to refresh and get rid of any smells it may have.

Does wool shrink when washed in hot water?

Yes! Do not wash in water above 30 degrees.

What is the best way to store my Merino garments

Do not store merino clothing on hangers as this will cause the garment to lose its shape, it’s best to be folded and stored on a shelf or in a draw.

For long term storage make sure the garment is clean, folded and placed in a sealed plastic bag. You can wrap it in acid free tissue paper before sealing in plastic bag to add a extra layer of protection.
Moths and wool do not go together, you can use cedarwood chips, lavender soap, neem oil or camphor oil to keep the nasty insects away. Moths and other insects can cause holes and destroy your precious garments.

Will my merino fabric stretch / relax after wearing?

Yes, the fabric does relax with wear and moulds to your body shape, then after a wash it springs back to it’s original condition. The way this fabric moulds to your personal body shape when wearing makes it super comfy!

Is your Merino made from 100% sheep's wool?
