Look at all these benefits Merino fibers have to offer:

  • Naturally Fire Resistance
  • UV Resistance
  • Biodegradable
  • Renewable
  • Sustainable
  • Temperature Regulating
  • Odour Resistance
  • Durability
  • Moisture Management
  • Comfort
  • Health benefits

Naturally Fire Resistant
Let’s face it, no one wants anyone to get burnt but if you are unfortunate enough to find themselves in that situation then merino fabric would defiantly be the best to be dressed in. It doesn’t melt, drip or stick to the skin in hot situations like synthetic fabrics do. The structure of the of the wool doesn’t allow enough oxygen for it to burn, it chars and crumbles away.
UV Resistant
Merino wool has a natural UV resistance, blocking harmful UV radiation from the sun. The natural UV protection stems from the natural chemical composition and structure of the wool fibers. The natural crimped design of the fiber allows for better light absorption.
Biodegradable, Renewable and Sustainable
Merino wools is made up of a natural protein which the main protein is called Keratin. The protein is very much like the protein found in our own hair.
Merino wool decomposes in the soil in a matter of months slowly releasing valuable nitrogen, Sulphur and magnesium nutrients back into the earth, just like fertilizer.
This renewable fleece grows back naturally once or twice per year with the sheep consuming Water, Sunlight, Grass and Fresh Air!
Merino wool is one of the most sustainable fabrics on the planet which benefit us and the earths future, unlike the tonnes of the unused clothing getting dumped around the world, to what is referred to as ‘fast fashion dumping’, with some fabric types taking anything up to 500 years to decompose.
Temperature Regulating
Our new babies can struggle to regulate their own temperature until they are about 12mths old. As you could imagine when their wee body is busy trying to keep warm, they are using up energy that they could be using to grow! Merino fabric is the perfect solution to help with this. Because merino fiber has a natural crimped structure this enables the fiber to trap air effectively and insulate the body by creating its own microclimate acting as a buffer against changing conditions. Warm and cozy in the winter and cool in the summer.
Odour Resistant
Merino wool is naturally resistant to body odours, because merino can hold up to 35% of its own weight in moisture. It wicks away the excess moisture and in turn it slows down your natural bacteria growth which leads to the odour. Merino also has natural lanolin within the wool which helps to fight off lingering bacteria
How perfect quality to have in a garment? Means less washing, less fuss!
Durability
Great news! By following our care advice, you should have a garment that lasts you a long time. With our babywear that would mean double the value cause when you have had the use of the size, you can store it away until your next baby or pass onto a friend or family member for them to enjoy the best for their baby.
Merino wool is 6 times stronger than cotton. Each fiber can be bend back onto itself over 20,000 times in comparison to e.g. cotton which breaks after 3,200 times.
Moisture management properties
Merino is a quick drying fabric and wicks moisture away from the skin. As the body heats up the moisture vapors will be absorbed by the wool fiber and gets released into the environment outside the fabric. Merino absorbs up to 35% of its own weight in moisture but still feels dry to touch. All this helps to maintain a more stable microclimate between skin and garment.
Comfort and Health Benefits
People are becoming more and more aware of the health benefits that Merino wool has to offer. Merino is not scratchy or itchy as once thought. There have been universities trial studies on babies and children wearing merino, where eczema symptoms improved In comparison to other fabrics. Merino regulates your body temperature better and keeps you in the thermal comfort zone this all helps with falling asleep quicker, sleep longer and deeper which overall gives a better quality of sleep, this is all great news for Mum and baby.
